  • Improved low light sensitivity.
  • High dynamic range (HDR) support.
  • Powered autofocus.
  • Camera Module 3 is available in visible light only and infrared sensitive ( NoIR ) variants and with either a standard (75°°) or wide-angle (120 °°) Lens

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3 is a compact camera from Raspberry Pi. It offers an
IMX708 12-megapixel sensor with HDR, and features phase detection autofocus.

Camera Module 3 is available in standard and wide-angle variants, both of which are available with or without an infrared cut filter.
Camera Module 3 can be used to take full HD video as well as stills photographs,
and features an HDR mode up to 3 megapixels. Its operation is fully supported by the
libcamera library, including Camera Module 3’s rapid autofocus feature: this makes it
easy for beginners to use, while offering plenty for advanced users. Camera Module 3 is
compatible with all Raspberry Pi computers.

The PCB size and mounting holes remain the same as for Camera Module.

The Z dimension differs: due to the improved optics, Camera Module 3 is several
millimeters taller than Camera Module 2.

All variants of Camera Module 3 feature:
• Back-illuminated and stacked CMOS 12-megapixel image sensor (Sony IMX708)
• High signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)
• Built-in 2D Dynamic Defect Pixel Correction (DPC)
• Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) for rapid autofocus
• QBC Re-mosaic function
• HDR mode (up to 3 megapixel output)
• CSI-2 serial data output
• 2-wire serial communication (supports I2C fast mode and fast-mode plus)
• 2-wire serial control of focus mechanism

Still working on software

I love the camera and the resolution and autofocus are great. I have been working with libcamera, the new software in Raspbian. My older cameras worked fine with a Raspi webcam server so any browser could view the video and taking snapshots was easy with "curl". That webserver software doesn't use libcamera so I'm starting from scratch. Streaming with TCP works but stops streaming when VLC the client viewer stops. I can't get UDP streaming working.

Great Price on Pi Camera v3

Loved the price on the camera module. Big improvement on resolution over v2. On a RPi Zero 2W I get about 40 full res images per minute. An RPi 4B can run at 114 images per minute. Webcam video is great too.

Amazing little affordable camera - great upgrade

I had the RPi camera v2 for years and saw version 3 came out. Replacing old one by new one was as easy as unplugging the old one and plugging the new one. The image quality of the new version is amazing. Great colors, great clarity and great resolution. It's even better than my other USB cameras.
