Arduino Introduces the Oplà IoT Kit
Now everyone can learn to program and experience the benefits of the Internet of Things – and it all fits right in the palm of your hand.
In October 2020, Arduino announced the launch of their new Oplà IoT Kit, a first-of-its-kind open programmable IoT platform designed to make IoT accessible to people everywhere. The kit contains all the equipment and instructions necessary to build eight smart application projects that can make a practical difference in your home and work life.
If you’re a beginner with only basic programming / DIY experience, you can get a step-by-step, hands-on introduction to IoT. If you already possess more advanced skills, you’ll be able to use the kit to hack and customize your smart devices, retaining full control over your processes and data.
How the Oplà IoT Kit Works
The Arduino Oplà IoT Kit comes with everything you need to get started with IoT and actually build eight useful projects. No soldering, engineering, or construction skills are required to create something functional. With the Oplà IoT Kit you can transform your existing appliances into smart devices.
Each Kit contains:
One MKR IoT Carrier with OLED Display - embedded in the carrier are multiple sensors that measure light, temperature, humidity, and pressure, as well as a built-in gyroscope and accelerometer plus five capacitive tactile buttons. Each carrier also has three grove connectors that are analog and DC compatible so you can connect even more sensors.
One Arduino MKR WiFi 1010 Board
A collection of plug-and-play sensors and actuators, including PIR and moisture sensors and a USB cable
A 12-month free subscription to the Arduino Create Maker Plan, their premium online coding platform
8 connected projects, each with step-by step instructions
You can manage all the settings for your device using the Arduino IoT Cloud, making it easy to create dashboards for real-time inspections and modifications. All your projects can even be accessible on-the-go via the Arduino IoT Remote App, so you can monitor and control your projects anywhere that you can connect to the internet.
8 IoT Projects to Transform Your Home and Workplace
The Arduino Oplà IoT Kit comes with eight out-of-the-box projects ready to go. Some of the projects are designed to help you learn basic concepts about IoT and how they apply to real-world problems. Some of the projects can be used right now around your home or office to improve your daily routine.
The eight projects are:
Remote Controlled Lights – you can turn your lights on and off and change their color and brightness, all through your smartphone.
Personal Weather Station – you can monitor, record, and track your local weather conditions.
Smart Garden – you can manage and control the environment and soil for your plants.
Thermostat Control – you can control your heating and cooling systems, even remotely.
Home Security Alarm – you can set up motion and trigger warnings to keep your home safe from intruders.
Solar System Tracker – you can monitor and retrieve data about the planets and moons in our Solar System.
Inventory Control – you can track and monitor the flow of goods in and out.
Thinking About You – you get a unique way to share messages with other Oplà users via the Arduino IoT Cloud.
