About Magic Mirror V3

The Vilros Magic Mirror V3 is a complete smart mirror project kit that combines a two-way mirror with an internal LCD display and Raspberry Pi integration. The V3 includes a ready-to-connect internal LCD, making assembly faster compared to custom display installations.

What's included:

  • Two-way mirror (acrylic or glass depending on variant)
  • Internal LCD display (ready to connect)
  • Mounting frame/enclosure
  • Power supply and cables
  • Raspberry Pi integration (Pi sold separately or included depending on kit)

Specifications

Weight (without Raspberry Pi): Approximately 15 pounds

The V3 unit weight does not include the Raspberry Pi board, power supply, or any additional accessories. The two-way mirror and internal LCD assembly contribute most of the weight.

Display: Internal LCD panel (size and resolution vary by kit version)

Mirror: Two-way mirror optimized for smart mirror applications (allows display visibility when backlit)

Power: Requires AC power for the internal display and Raspberry Pi

Mounting: Wall-mountable or freestanding depending on frame design

Assembly & setup

  1. Unpack components: Carefully remove the two-way mirror, LCD assembly, frame, and all included hardware from packaging.
  2. Install the LCD: The internal LCD is pre-positioned or ready to connect. Follow included wiring instructions to connect the display to the Raspberry Pi via HDMI.
  3. Mount the Raspberry Pi: Secure the Raspberry Pi (not included in weight spec) in the designated mounting location within the frame. Connect power and HDMI.
  4. Install MagicMirror² software: Flash the Raspberry Pi with MagicMirror² software (see our Magic Mirror V4 instructions for software setup steps - the process is the same for V3).
  5. Close the frame: Secure the two-way mirror in the frame, ensuring it's clean and properly aligned.
  6. Power on: Connect power to the display and Raspberry Pi. The system should boot and display the MagicMirror² interface behind the two-way mirror.

V3 vs V4

Magic Mirror V3: Features an internal ready-to-connect LCD display, reducing assembly complexity. Weighs approximately 15 pounds without the Pi.

Magic Mirror V4: Updated design with potential hardware improvements and refined assembly process. See the Magic Mirror V4 instructions for details on the newer version.

Software: Both V3 and V4 use the same MagicMirror² open-source platform, so modules, configuration, and customization are identical across versions.
