Micro-computing is about to get a whole lot more accessible with the release of the Raspberry Pi Pico. This low cost raspberry pi microcontroller board features an RP2040 processor, and all your fixin's for getting started on embedded electronics projects at a stress free price!

The Raspberry Pi foundation has changed single-board computing forever by releasing their powerful computer device into this world in 2012. Now they're ready to do that same trick for microcontrollers with this new product launch - because you can never have too many options when it comes to small but mighty tiny machines.

The pico pico raspberry pi has a built-in USB UF2 bootloader that's capable of reading new firmware. You can access this and program it with the BOOTSEL button, or by pulling down your RUN/Reset pin to ground while plugging in into the computer--it will show up as an external drive for you! Just note: do not double click reset when prompted; instead press it once before shutting off power so you don't enter normal mode again.

The RP2040 chip has a clock speed of our M4 (SAMD51), and two cores that are equivalent to our M0 (SAMD21). It does not have DSP hardware support, but for many calculations it will perform close-to-M4 speeds. There are 16 PWM channels as well as I2C controllers, SPI controllers, UARTs multiplexed across the GPIO pico pins - check out what can be set in pinout!

Whether you are creating your own projects, or reflashing a whole new firmware into the RP1040-PICO, it's easy with the Vilros Raspberry Pico pi board. Simply hold down BOOTSEL during boot to enter the bootloader mode and upload your code through an OS such as Windows, Linux, macOS or Android by plugging in the USB cable. The pico microcontroller has a permanent ROM USB UF2 bootloader so you can also draw up new designs on paper using pen and paper then load them onto the board for testing without even requiring wires!
