The video covers unboxing, assembly, peripheral connections, and first-time configuration for your Raspberry Pi 5.

Kit contents

Your Vilros Pi 5 Basic Kit typically includes:

  • Raspberry Pi 5 board
  • 27W USB-C power supply (official or compatible)
  • MicroSD card (pre-loaded with Raspberry Pi OS or blank)
  • Micro-HDMI to HDMI cable (for connecting to a monitor)
  • Case (optional, depending on kit variant)
  • Quick start guide

Verify all components are present before beginning setup.

Assembly & setup

  1. Install in case (if included): If your kit includes a case, open it and place the Raspberry Pi 5 inside, ensuring all ports align with case openings. Secure the case.
  2. Insert the microSD card: Insert the microSD card into the slot on the underside of the Pi 5. Push gently until it clicks into place.
  3. Connect peripherals: Connect your monitor using the micro-HDMI to HDMI cable (use HDMI0, the port nearest the USB-C power port). Plug in a USB keyboard and mouse to the USB ports.
  4. Optional Ethernet: For wired internet, connect an Ethernet cable to the RJ45 port.
  5. Connect power last: Plug the 27W USB-C power supply into an outlet, then connect it to the Pi 5's USB-C power port. The Pi will boot automatically when power is applied.

Important: Raspberry Pi 5 requires a 27W (5V/5A) power supply for optimal performance. Lower-wattage supplies may cause stability issues under load.

First boot & configuration

On first boot, Raspberry Pi OS will guide you through setup:

  1. Welcome wizard: Follow the on-screen setup wizard. Select your country, language, timezone, and keyboard layout.
  2. Set password: Create a strong password for the default user (typically pi or a custom username).
  3. Connect to WiFi: If not using Ethernet, select your wireless network and enter the password.
  4. Update software: Allow the system to check for and install updates. This process may take several minutes depending on your connection speed.
  5. Reboot: After updates complete, the system will prompt you to reboot.

Once setup is complete, you'll see the Raspberry Pi desktop. Explore pre-installed applications, try Recommended Software for additional programs, or start building your first project.
