Case overview

The Vilros Port and Pi Breakout Case is designed for Raspberry Pi Zero boards, providing easy access to ports that are typically difficult to reach on the small form factor Pi Zero. The case typically features:

  • Protective enclosure for Pi Zero
  • Breakout connectors or adapters for mini-HDMI, micro-USB, and other ports
  • GPIO header access
  • Mounting holes for project integration

Compatible with: Raspberry Pi Zero, Pi Zero W, Pi Zero 2 W

Assembly & installation

  1. Prepare the case: Open or disassemble the case according to the design (snap-fit or screws). Remove any protective film from acrylic parts.
  2. Install breakout adapters: If your case includes breakout cables or adapters (e.g., mini-HDMI to HDMI, micro-USB to USB-A), attach these to the Pi Zero's ports before installing in the case.
  3. Position the Pi Zero: Place the Pi Zero into the case's mounting area. Ensure all ports align with the case openings or breakout connectors.
  4. Secure the Pi: Use the provided screws or standoffs to secure the Pi Zero in place.
  5. Close the case: Attach the top cover or remaining case panels. Secure with screws or snaps as designed.
  6. Route cables: If using breakout cables, route them through the designated openings in the case.

Using the breakout ports

HDMI connection: If your case includes a mini-HDMI to full-size HDMI adapter or cable, connect your monitor directly to the breakout connector instead of the Pi Zero's small mini-HDMI port.

USB ports: Micro-USB to USB-A adapters or cables provide standard USB connectivity for peripherals, removing the need for separate OTG adapters.

GPIO access: The GPIO header remains accessible for HATs, breakout boards, or individual wire connections. Ensure the case design provides adequate clearance for your GPIO accessories.

Mounting: Use the case's mounting holes to secure it in your project enclosure, robot chassis, or other applications.
