Package contents
Your Pi 5 Active Cooler Compatible Case typically includes:
- Case base and top cover
- Mounting hardware (screws, standoffs)
- Cutout or mounting area for the official Raspberry Pi Active Cooler
- Port access openings for USB, HDMI, Ethernet, GPIO, power, and microSD
Note: The Raspberry Pi 5 Active Cooler is sold separately. This case is designed to accommodate it.
Assembly steps
- Prepare the base: Place the case base on a flat surface. Install standoffs if included, using the provided screws.
- Position the Pi 5: Carefully place your Raspberry Pi 5 onto the standoffs, aligning the mounting holes. Secure with screws from the top.
- Verify port alignment: Ensure all ports (USB, HDMI, Ethernet, GPIO, power, microSD) align with the case openings. The board should sit level and secure.
- Install the Active Cooler (if you have one): Follow the Active Cooler installation instructions in the next section before closing the case.
- Attach the top cover: Once the Active Cooler is installed, place the top cover over the case. The cover should have a cutout or vent for the Active Cooler. Secure with screws or clips as designed.
Installing the Active Cooler
If you have the official Raspberry Pi Active Cooler, install it before closing the case:
- Remove protective backing: Peel the protective film from the Active Cooler's thermal pad.
- Align the cooler: Position the Active Cooler over the Raspberry Pi 5's main chip, ensuring the thermal pad makes full contact.
- Secure the cooler: Use the provided push-pins or clips to secure the Active Cooler to the Pi 5 mounting holes. Press firmly until the pins click into place.
- Connect power: Connect the Active Cooler's cable to the Raspberry Pi 5's fan header (located near the GPIO). The Pi 5 will automatically control the fan speed based on temperature.
Active Cooler performance: The official Raspberry Pi Active Cooler provides forced-air cooling, significantly improving thermal performance under load. The Pi 5 automatically adjusts fan speed based on CPU temperature, keeping the system cool and preventing thermal throttling.
