Case design & features

The Vilros Wave Case for Raspberry Pi 5 features a distinctive wave-pattern design that combines aesthetics with functional cooling. Key features include:

  • Unique wave-pattern shell for enhanced airflow
  • Optimized ventilation channels for Raspberry Pi 5's thermal requirements
  • Easy access to all ports (USB, HDMI, Ethernet, GPIO, power, microSD)
  • Optional fan mounting support (depending on case variant)
  • Secure snap-fit or screw assembly

Compatible with: Raspberry Pi 5 only (designed specifically for Pi 5's layout and thermal profile)

Assembly steps

  1. Prepare components: Remove all case parts from packaging. If acrylic or plastic panels have protective film, peel it off before assembly.
  2. Install standoffs (if included): Attach standoffs to the bottom case panel or base using the provided screws.
  3. Optional heatsinks: If your kit includes heatsinks, apply them to the Raspberry Pi 5's main chips (CPU, etc.) before placing it in the case.
  4. Mount the Raspberry Pi 5: Place the Pi 5 into the case base, aligning the mounting holes with the standoffs. Secure with screws from the top, ensuring the board sits level.
  5. Install fan (optional): If the case supports an active cooling fan and one is included, mount it according to the case design (usually in the top shell or side vent). Connect the fan to the Pi 5's fan header.
  6. Attach the wave shell: Position the wave-patterned top shell over the Pi 5, ensuring all port cutouts align. The wave design should allow airflow through the case.
  7. Secure the case: Snap the case together if it's a snap-fit design, or use the provided screws to secure the top and bottom sections.

Cooling & ventilation

The Vilros Wave Case is designed to provide passive cooling through its wave-pattern ventilation channels. The unique shape allows air to circulate around the Raspberry Pi 5, helping to dissipate heat during operation.

Passive cooling tips:

  • Place the case in an area with good ambient airflow; avoid enclosed spaces.
  • Ensure the wave vents are not blocked by other objects.
  • The Pi 5 can run moderately warm under load; this is normal. Monitor temperatures with vcgencmd measure_temp.

Active cooling (optional fan): If your case variant includes a fan, connect it to the Raspberry Pi 5's dedicated fan header. The Pi 5 will automatically control fan speed based on temperature (PWM control). See the Raspberry Pi 5 documentation or /boot/firmware/config.txt for fan configuration options.

Typical Pi 5 operating temperatures:

  • Idle: 40-50°C
  • Light load: 50-60°C
  • Heavy load: 60-75°C (thermal throttling begins around 80°C)
